In the Roanoke Times, Friday, May 5, 2006: Peggy Blanton McCurry, of Salem, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 1, 2006. She was a generous woman who enjoyed giving of herself through avenues such as volunteering at the Salem Museum and food bank, serving as past president of the Roanoke County Women's Club, offering free haircuts at nursing homes, participating in Meals On Wheels, donating supplies to the SPCA, and providing blankets for the homeless. Mrs. McCurry was artistically talented with her painting and interior design and also enjoyed collecting antiques. She attended Ft. Lewis Baptist Church for over twenty years and based her strength on Philippians 4:13 which says, "I can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens me." She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Nellie Blanton; husband, Russell McCurry, former police officer who served the City of Salem; and several brothers and sisters. Her surviving family includes her daughters, Beverly Dudding and Cheryl Kemp and husband, Dean; sisters, Gracie Clary, Jewel Pulley, and Mary Lee Farrar; grandchildren, Devin Russell-Wade Dudding, Reece Jordan Kemp, and Tyler Bryce Kemp; and many close and loving friends.
