ROCKY BOY — Leo Duran, Sr., 87, of Rocky Boy, died Sunday, March 26, 2000, at a Havre hospital of natural causes.
Funeral services were held at Rocky Boy Catholic Church with Sister Mary Margaret officiating. Burial followed at Highland Cemetery in Havre.
Duran was born April 3, 1912 to Tom and Isabelle (Bird) Duran in Havre. He attended St. Jude's Catholic Church in Havre.
He married Mary Elizabeth St. Pierre Feb. 25, 1935 at St. Jude Catholic Church in Havre.
Duran worked at the CCC Camp. He worked in the coal mines, drove truck for the sugar beet farm, picked potatoes, put up hay for local ranchers, sheered sheep, worked on ranches, was a firefighter until he was 68. He worked with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, was a bus driver for Rocky Boy Schools for 11 years, and worked for the railroad from 1949 to 1984.
Duran enjoyed dancing, hand games, powwows, and was in rodeos when young.
Duran was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth; parents; half-brother, Frank Capplette; sisters, Lucy Sangrey and Rosie LaMere; daughters, Caroline Molyneux, Rosemary, Isabelle; son, Henry.
Survivors include his daughters, Agnes Morsette, Elaine Nault, Rose Lee Winchell, and Shirley Descharm, all of Rocky Boy; adopted daughters, Isabelle Dotts and Vina Stump, both of Rocky Boy; sons, Clifford of Wisconsin, Leo Jr., Manuel Sr. and Robert, all of Rocky Boy, and Joe of Fort Hall, Idaho; adopted sons, Michael J. Descharm of Missoula, Henry Duran and Richard Duran, both of Havre; twin sister, Louise Big Plume of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; 53 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren.
