History - Jane lived in Grayson County, Virginia until she was 10 years old. Then she moved with her parents to Grainger County, Tennessee, and later to Overton County, Tennesse. She met and married John Howard, the son of Abraham Howard and Lydia Stewart.
Jane and John migrated to Madison County, Illinois with John's mother, his brothers and sisters about 1810, and settled in Saline Township near the Augusta Church. He was a ranger during the Indian troubles; a member of the Legislature of 1810 when Illinois became a state; and was first Justice of the Peace. He died 7 Jul 1827 in Madison County, Illinois, leaving a widow with a very young family.
Jane moved to Fayette County, Illinois where she is listed in the 1830 census; to Effingham, Lee, Iowa where she died 27 January 1847. She is buried in the McKeehan Cemetery, Harrison township, Lee, Iowa.
