Hall of Fame Major League Baseball Player and Manager. He spent seven different decades in the Majors as a player, manager, executive, and scout. He hit .333 with two home runs to lead the Senators to an AL pennant and World Series title that year, and then led them to another AL pennant flag the following year. He also managed the Tigers, Red Sox and Phillies, and led the Yankees to a World Championship in 1947. In his later baseball years, he served as an assistant General Manager, General Manager, and a scout. He won 2,159 games in 29 years as a manager, is ranked sixth in All-time wins for a manager, and was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1975 by the Veterans Committee. (bio by: Patrick Whitney)
