Walter Ward

Funeral services for Walter Ward will be at the Metler - Wehrle Funeral Home Thursday at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Gary Mayes, of the Drake Avenue Christian Church, will be in charge. Burial will be in Mt. Ararat Cemetery.

Mr. Ward, 78, a retired railroad worker, who resided at 1205 West Washington Street, died at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9 following a brief illness. He had been hospitalized one day.

Born Jan. 20, 1894 in Appanoose County, he was the son of John and Caroline Stocker Ward. In 1920, he was married to Cecile Kelley of Moravia.

He was a member of Drake Avenue Christian Church and the American Legion, and was a veteran of World War I. He was employed as a section worker with the railroad 40 years.

Survivors are his wife, one son, John, Aledo, Ill.; four daughters, Mrs. Paul (Georgianna ) Hostetter, Morning Sun, Iowa; Mrs. Richard (Alice) Loving and Mrs. Grant (Frances) Banks, Settle, Wash; and Mrs. Ken (Edith) Bryant, Centerville; 25 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Lew (Alma) Wickham.

His parents, a half brother and sister preceeded him in death.

The family will be at the Metler - Wehrle Funeral Home Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m.
