Georgetown Times Feb. 22, 1968

Rupert McGill Allen of Belle Island Gardens was dead upon arrival at the Georgetown County Memorial Hospital Friday afternoon. He had apparently suffered a heart attack a short time before.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in the Wayne Methodist Church. Officiating was the Rev. James Wakefield Covington. Burial followed in Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of Mayer Funeral Home.

Mr. Allen, son of the late I. H. and Minnie Moore Allen, was born in Conway on October 14, 1916. He graduated from Conway High school and the Citadel, Class of 1937. He had lived in Georgetown since that time except for the time he was away during World War II. He was Commander of a Field Artillery Battery in the European Theater during the War. After the War was over, he helped to reorganize the National Guard in Georgetown, and was a Charter Member of the VFW Post No 6444. Mr. Allen was an instrument mechanic at International Paper Company, a partner in the Maryville Laundry, and President of the PAAC Instrument Company. He was a member of the Wayne Methodist Church.

Surviving are his widow Mrs. Julia McConnell Allen of Belle Isle Gardens; seven brothers Herbert Allen of Cresent Beach, JB Allen, Charlie Allen, and Richard Allen all of Conway, Burl Allen of Bennettesville, the Rev. Maynard Allen of Lake View, and Major Ray F. Allen of Vietnam; four sisters Mrs. H. E. Butler of Conway, Mrs. Coleen Howell of Mullins, Mrs. R. W. Harter of Charleston, and Mrs. Bruce Chestnut of Fort Jackson and a number of nieces and nephews.
