Officer Henry Berry died from gunshot wounds suffered thirteen days before on March 17th when he was shot by a man he had caught trying to rob a florist shop at 8th and Parrish streets. The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that he died the morning of his 37th birthday. However, the Veterans' Burial Card lists his borthday as March 25, 1895.
A suspect was arrested, tried, and sentenced to death. He was executed on February 26, 1940.
Officer Berry had served with the agency for 11 years. He was survived by his three children.
