Lawrence Calvin "Larry" Quinn
Birth: Sep. 30, 1938
Toledo
Lucas County
Ohio, USA
Death: May 3, 2009
Toledo
Lucas County
Ohio, USA

Lawrence was "Larry" to some and "Calvin" to his close friends and family. He was educated in Toledo Public Schools and graduated from Jesup W. Scott High School in 1956. He was an All-City football player in 1955 and also played basketball for Braden United Methodist Church.

He joined the U.S. Army after graduation and was honorably discharged May 1960.

He then resided with his sister Lorean and her family in Las Vegas, Nevada. After a brief stay he then moved to Los Angeles, California where he lived with his sister Hattie Carter. With her encouragement and help, he enrolled in West Coast Trade College and received a degree in Architectural and Mechanical Engineering.

He returned to Toledo in 1964 and found employment with the firm Samborn, Stekette Otis and Evans also known as SSOE working there for three years. He then went to work at New Community Development Department in 1980 where he was a project coordinator working on several projects with the late Wayman Palmer and Inez Nash. He worked in the Warren Sherman area for 15 years. He was then shifted to City of Toledo as a supervisor with the construction engineers.

A knee injury in 1991 caused him to retire after 25 years of service.

Mr. Quinn was well known in the community for his many good deeds and volunteer work. He was head coach with a Mid-City football team from 1964 to 1971 at Fulton School also a volunteer assistant coach at Scott High School from 1971-1973. He was a loyal fan of Scott High School, a Scott booster, and served on the Scott Hall of Fame Committee for ten years. Though he was ill, he still worked hard for the renovation of Scott. He also was an outspoken critic of the "Building for Success Program" and for the rights of minority workers.

He was an Ohio State fan and although the Cleveland Browns have been losers for the last few years, he was still loyal to them.

He loved the CNN news channel, history, his family, and enjoyed telling about his Army experiences to anyone who would listen. He assisted Anthony Quinn in tracing the Quinn Family roots, which dated back to the 1600's. He was an artist and his expertise was in drawing portraits. He loved "old school" jazz and romantic love songs.

He never had kids of his own but was a surrogate father to many, always trying to lead them on the right path of life.

He was a past member of St. Matthews Consistory #24 Amazon Lodge FAAM and Mecca Temple #43 Shrine. In 2001 he was baptized and joined Christ Inspirational Ministries Church.

{ NOT ENOUGH TIME!!! }

The time we had, Dad,
Wasn't nearly enough
To pack in an entire
Lifetime of love.

There are so many questions
That I need answers to,
But now that you're gone
There's no way to ask you.

But there are still photos
To remember you by,
Each time I look at them,
I still want to cry.

They say grief is easier
to bear as time goes by,
But the doesn't stop me
from wondering why?

Why my dear, sweet dad
Was taken so soon,
When he was my guiding star,
My sun and my moon.

There are no answers
To a question like this,
So I'll cherish your memory,
And mourn the years we'll miss.

LOVE ALWAYS, ***
Beloved Daughter!!!
