Mrs. Lilla "Muff" Peters, age 87 of Pearson Chapel, passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2009 in the East Texas Medical Center-Crockett. Mrs. Peters was born December 23, 1921 in Madison County, Texas and was a resident of Houston County for the past 40 years. She had worked for Hughes Tool Company during World War II and had been a volunteer for the American Cancer Society driving patients to their appointments. Mrs. Peters was a member of the Crockett E. T. M. C. Women's Auxiliary for 38 years. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lovelady and Lovelady Methodist Women's Fellowship.

Survivors include her husband E. R. Peters, of Pearson Chapel; brother Edwin Q. Z. Sloan and wife Val, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; niece Glenda Hibbitts and husband Tom, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; great-niece Allison Hibbitts; great-nephews Jay Hibbitts and Michael Hibbitts; nephew Donald Sloan and wife Lori, of Austin; brother-in-law Morris Gardner and wife Laverne, of Lovelady; nephew Charles Gardner and wife Rhonda, of Lovelady; niece Donna Murray and husband Stacy, of Lovelady; niece-in-law Joan Little, of Lovelady; great-nephews Perry Little and wife Audrey, Billy Morris Little and wife Melissa and Danny Little and wife Michelle, all of Lovelady; great-niece Nancy Lawrence and husband Robert, of Crockett; step-son Mike Peters and wife JoAnn, of Washington State; step-granddaughters Tammy Buenning and husband Brice, of Washington State, Tiffany Peters, of Palm Desert, Calif.; step-grandson Michael Peters, Jr., of Huntington Beach, Calif.; step-great grandchildren Michaela, Olivia, Jaden and Sadie Muff; and many special great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews and other relatives.

Preceded in death by her husband Wilmer "Scoby" Gardner; and nephew Billy Little.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Lilla "Muff" Peters were held Friday, May 8, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church in Lovelady with the Rev. Jim White and the Rev. Doug Howell officiating. Interment followed in the Weldon Cemetery.
