Eugene Barnett was born March 31, 1847 in Williston, VT. and died at the Soilders Home in Los Angles on Feb. 6, 1914. He was the youngest child of William and Malinda (Crowfoot) Barnett. As a young adult, he enlisted into Co. "D", 141st Illinois Inf. Vol., Union Army. After the Civil War, he became a stage coach driver and resided in Deadwood S.D. during the days of Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane. He was driving the "Treasure Stage" out of Deadwood, when it was held up at the Canyon Springs Station (near Newcastle, WY) on Sept. 26, 1878. Due to poor health, he lived out his final years in California. We never knew you Uncle Gene, but I sure wish we had have.
