George E. Harrison, 86, of Martin died May 1, 2009, at his home.

Graveside services were 2 p.m. Sunday at East Side Cemetery in Martin, with the Rev. Hugh Barksdale officiating. Murphy Funeral Home in Martin was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Gary Vincent, Bill Zarecor, Jon Pritchett, and Caleb Harrison. Honorary pallbearers were Karl Warren, Bill Cate, Dessell Wright, George Pritchett, and Russell Riggins.

He was born May 14, 1922, in Weakley County, son of the late Edward and Amelia (Clemmons) Harrison. He was married to Ruth (Jones) Harrison, who survives, and was the owner and operator of General Supply Co. in Martin. He was a graduate of the former Martin High School and was a member of Martin First United Methodist Church. He was a US Navy veteran.

Survivors also include two sons, David Harrison and Tony Harrison, both of Martin; two grandchildren, Courtney Vasser of Mount Juliet and Caleb Harrison of Martin; and his great-granddaughter, Camryn Vasser. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Harrison and Fred Harrison.
