Major League Baseball Player. Born Dominic Paul DiMaggio, he played at the center field position for eleven seasons (1940 to 1942, 1946 to 1953) with the Boston Red Sox. He was the younger brother of former Major League players Vince and Joe DiMaggio. He was a member of the 1946 American League Pennant-winning Red Sox Team and appeared in seven games while recording seven hits during the World Series. His other notable career highlights include seven-time American League All Star selection (1941 to 1942, 1946, 1949 to 1952), two-time league leader in runs scored (1950 with 131, 1951 with 113), league leader in triples with 11 and stolen bases with 15 in 1950. His career was interrupted while he served in the United States Navy during World War II. In 1,399 career regular season games, DiMaggio recorded 1,680 hits with a .298 lifetime batting average. Following his baseball career, DiMaggio became a successful businessman. He founded a company that manufactured upholstery for automobiles. (bio by: C.S.)
