Son of Leo and Zinnah Iglehart Bennett.
Husband of Pat Hasley Bennett.
He was a graduate of Lakeside High School and Henderson State University and a member of Hot Springs Baptist Church.
John served in the United States AIR National Guard.
He began his career with Insurance Companies in Little Rock. In later years he started his own company, Employers Self Insured Services. He founded the Arkansas Self Insured Association.

He is survived by his wife, Pat Hasley Bennett; his son, Christopher Dale Bennett and his wife Chrystie Bennett; two step-daughters, Krissi Hasley Powell and her husband Brian and Missi Hasley Walker and her husband, Bill; one grandson, Ethan Dale Bennett; two step-grandchildren, Peyton Daniel Powell and Taylor Paige Powell; one nephew and and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Leta Dunnaway.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, April 28, 2009, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Chapel, Hot Springs with Brother Manley Beasley and Brother J.B. Evans officiating.

Interment will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Hot Springs.
Pallbearers will be Jim Locke, Art Dillard, Jerry Sammons, Roger Ledbetter, Henry Parker, Don Bridges, Dale Lott, Ronald Jarrell and Wayne Irwin.
Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Earl Dixon, Johnny Breckling, John Raymond Harms, Arnold Everett, Ray Baxter, Lib Carlisle, Garl Neel, Dr. William Downs, Audell Stachey, John Jackson and Shelby Fryar.
