Her husband preceded her in death on September 15, 1933, when she moved seven miles north of Wagoner, to the Flat Rock community. After her husband died, Mrs. Hawkins remained single and dedicated her life to rearing her children. She attended church her entire life and always took her children with her. She is a charter member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Wagoner. While in Rolling Hills Care Center, she attended the First Baptist Church of Rolling Hills in Catoosa.

Funeral services were held Friday, December 6, 1996, at Hersman-Nichols Funeral Home, Wagoner, with the Rev. Ernie Gill officiating. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery, Wagoner.
