SHAMROCK - John Bond, 88, died Sunday, May 3, 2009.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church of Shamrock with the Rev. Randy Land of Brownfield and the Rev. Mike Martin, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Shamrock Cemetery by Wright Funeral Directors.
John Bond was born Dec. 17, 1920, in Gordonville to William Earl and Cora Mae Roberts Bond. He married Maulcie L. Scrubbs on Dec. 19, 1932.
Mr. Bond taught and coached at Shamrock ISD for 57 years, and coached at Pampa and Lazbuddie. He loved kids and was a leader and an inspiration to men.
John was a graduate of TCU and served in the U.S. Marines during World War II, receiving the purple heart for his service.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Jarrett, Bruce, Pete, Joe and Paul Bond; and a sister, Winnie.
Survivors include his wife, Maulcie Bond; two sons, Sidney and wife Sandy and Walter and wife Brenda, all of Shamrock; a sister, Ruth Land of Brownfield; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family suggests memorials be to Juvenile Diabetes Association, 2916 Professional Parkway, Martinez, GA 30907; or Shamrock Community Education Foundation, 100 S. Illinois St., Shamrock, TX 79079.
