Mildred L. Allen, 79, of Dunbar passed away Thursday, April 30, 2009, at home.She was born in Wind Ridge, Pa., on August 2, 1929, the daughter of the late Raymond "Bud" Guthrie and Freda Guthrie, and was the eldest of seven children.

Mildred was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and was an active member of the community. Her home was a warm and welcoming place for her extended family and served as the social center for a large number of friends. Her yard was a gathering place for three generations of Dunbar children, all of whom knew they were accepted and welcomed. Mildred was a longtime member of the TOPS club and volunteered many hours with the schools and Cub Scouts. She was valedictorian of her high school class.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Andy Allen; and a daughter, Rebecca.

She is survived by two sons, Dan and David; six beloved grandchildren, Kelly, Brian, Chris, Michael, Andy and Hannah; plus three great-grandchildren, Katie, Ella and Mason. She is also survived by sisters, Betty Dishman of Glen Dale, Shirley Gray of Salem, Ohio, Marlene Campbell of Wind Ridge, Pa., and Deanna Hooker of Wind Ridge, Pa.

Mildred was appreciated by many caring neighbors, including her dear friend Barbara LeFevre.

A private burial will be conducted at Grandview Memorial Park in Dunbar.Arrangements will be handled by Keller Funeral Home.Friends may call on the family at the family home in Dunbar from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 3.
