Pauline was born near Mystic, Ia. on June 29, 1913 to B.F. "Frank" and Emma Baldwin Haines. She graduated from Cincinnati Iowa High School in 1933 and then taught 9 years in the rural schools of Appanoose County. Pauline taught three years at Carr; five years at Cornfield College and one year at Star School. Pauline was a member of the Cincinnati United Methodist Church and prior to her death was the oldest living member of the Livingston Church in Franklin Township where she attended as a child. Up until her later years, Pauline was very active in the church and will be remembered as a great organizer for church bazaars, soup suppers, bible schools, PEO dinners and Alumni Banquets. She will be remembered as a great cook with her big Sunday dinners after church, her awesome pancakes for breakfast and buckeyes at Christmas. She could put on a great evening meal even after a long day of driving the tractor in the hay field and working in her big garden that she always had when her children were all at home. Pauline had a love of reading and studying cookbooks. In 2005 she had a cookbook published with recipes from her life called, Pauline's Favorite Recipes. Pauline enjoyed being a farmwife, mother and grandma, mowing with her rider mower, wallpapering, sewing, planting her garden and flowers and a great love of reading that she passed down to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She liked butterflies and made each of her children a butterfly quilt. When asked what she liked to do, her answer was work. She did like to play games, enjoyed winning and was a good jokester.
