June Rose Pew, 76, died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2005 in Show Low.
She was born June 10, 1929, in Vernal, Utah, to James A. McCarty and Mildred
Cloward Nickell McCarty. She was raised in Phoenix, Arizona, and attended North
Phoenix High School where she met her husband Walter C. Pew. They were married
Nov. 4, 1947, in the Mesa Arizona Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints. June worked at the State Treasurer's office and the Arizona
State Corporation Commission while supporting her husband on a two-year mission
for the church. The couple moved to Show Low in 1953 after purchasing a
distributing business.
June began working for Transamerica Title Company in 1967 and was soon made the
Navajo and Apache County Manager. She was well known in the real estate business
and was an authority on real estate Law. She inspected land parcels all over
Navajo County to make sure legal descriptions were correct and was nicknamed
"Miss Navajo County" because of her knowledge of the area. She was instrumental
in developing the FLEX (Federal Land Exchange) program with Bob Fernandez, which
enabled forest land to be exchanged for private land. June was responsible for
all appraisals and escrows in this highly successful program.
In 1983 June suffered a massive stroke which forced her to retire from
Transamerica Title Company in 1984. The real estate world in Show Low and
surrounding areas missed her greatly. June enjoyed hunting for arrowheads,
pottery and other artifacts in the area. One of her favorite places to go with
her family was Rocky Point, Mexico. She was an avid reader and a great supporter
of her children and grandchildren. She will be missed by her family and husband
and remembered by many who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her husband, Walter Pew of Show Low; two daughters, Caroline
(Trent) Adams and Jody (Quince) Peterson; one brother, Jimmy McCarty; two
sisters, Joan (Bill) Biesemeyer and Jean (Frank) Weaver; 13 grandchildren and
seven-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Walter Mark Pew in 1986 and a
granddaughter, Kyra Adams in 1995.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15 at the Show Low First
Ward Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Bishop
Farrell Adams officiating. Interment was in the Show Low Cemetery.
