By 1910 Oliver had moved his family to Joseph where he took a job herding sheep for Pete Beaudoin. Later he was a tender.
In the 1920s the Hepburn homestead house on the Divide was moved next to the schoolhouse and used as a "teacherage."
In the 1930s the family moved again, this time to Klamath Falls, Oregon, near the Rogue River where Oliver worked f6r the Dunn and Baker Construction Company doing road construction.
In 1942 they were living in Bend, Oregon, where Oliver raised stock. He worked as a laborer building Camp Abbott, fourteen miles south of Bend.
In 1947 they returned to Joseph. After Nora died Oliver lived in a cabin on Little Sheep Creek. In 1965 his health failed and he entered the Wallowa County Nursing Home where he lived until his death on November 25, 1968. A memorial service was held in Enterprise and Oliver was buried at the Prairie Creek Cemetery on November 29.
