Devere George Young, of Manchester Township, died April 29, 2009, in York.
He was the son of the late George O. and Nora F. (Byerly) Young.
He retired in 1986 as a foreman and auto body technician for the former Griffith Cadillac dealership, after 26 years of service to the company.
Mr. Young was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the occupation of Germany. He received four bronze service stars, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. The French government presented him with the Jubilee of Liberty Medal.
Mr. Young was a member of St. James Lutheran Church of West York where he served on the church council and also served as a trustee. He was a life member and chaplain for the West York VFW Post 8951. Other memberships include Shiloh American Legion Post 791, Viking Athletic Assoc., and Alpenrose German American Club.
He was the husband of the late Maude O. Young and Grace M. (King) Mulligan Young, they observed their 37th wedding anniversary on November 20, 2008. In addition to Grace, Devere is survived by three grandchildren, Scott Young of Spring Grove, Jennifer McCary of Dover, and Michelle Mulligan of Millsboro, DE; and one stepson, Dennis J. Mulligan of York.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Alcorn Young.
Interment was in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens with military honors by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
