He was born February 23, 1929, in Ohio City, the son of the late Lloyd I. and Dolly (Hartzog) Neiford. On April 15, 1972, he married Ruth (Showalter) Neiford, who preceded him in death on October 30, 2005.
Mr. Neiford worked at Borden's Cheese in Van Wert for more than 27 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army who served in the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include six children, Anita (David) Baer of Van Wert, Sidney (Betty) Showalter of Celina; Candice (David) Starkey of Summerland, Fla., Joy (Bruce R.) Oliver of Mattaponi, Va., Mitchell (Penny) Showalter of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Dean (Tammy) Showalter of Haviland; A sister, Vivian "Betty" Wise of Van Wert; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A daughter, Barbara Brickley; three brothers, Donald, Homer and Albert Neiford; and two sisters, Helen Taylor and Joan Simpson, also preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 2, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert, with the Rev. Dr. Joseph Harr officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert, with graveside military rites performed by the combined honor units of American Legion Post 178 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803, both in Van Wert.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 1, at the funeral home.
