W. H. Davis Dies In India
William H. Davis, son of James Alva and Mary Estelle Davis, was born in Taylor County, Iowa, Jan. 5, 1907 and died in Punjab, India, March 6, 1954. He spent most of his childhood and boyhood in and near Gravity. Other members of his family living here at that time, besides his parents, were two brothers, Ralph and Carl Davis.
He is a nephew of Mrs. Harley Wallace. Relatives from a distance here at the funeral were Mrs. Pearl Hollemback, an aunt of Casper, Wyo.; another aunt, Evadne Norris of Chicago; Carl Davis, wife and little daughter of Sterling, Colo.; Ralph Davis of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Also present from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Amos Wolfe, friends from Sterling, Colo.
Members present from the immediate family of Mrs. Davis are Mrs. P. H. Langan, mother, Earl Langan, brother and Louis Groverthal, brother-in-law of Platte Center, Nebr.; Mrs. Lucille Kluever of Columbus, Nebr., Mrs. A. J. Lousberg and husband of Fleming, Colo., Mrs. L. M. Carstensen and husband of Grand Island, Nebr.
He was married to Evelyn Mark in April 1937. They have one daughter, July Kay, 13 years of age. Mr. Davis and family had been in India about 18 months, where he was employed by the government of India in the construction of a dam. His wife and daughter were unable to return to the United States at this time.
