David Henry Showalter Jr. Married Clara Jane Bush on 13 Aug 1869, in Walnut Twp, Fairfield Co, Ohio. To their union were born seven children: Clara Daisy, Henry Foye, Maria Matilda, Paul Bush, Olive Virginia, John Eversole and Bryan Norton.

David died of tuberculosis. He got sick first and then Clara, who succumbed of the same disease.

He was a member of the Christian Church, a farmer and a Democrat.
