EUGENIA MASON TAYLOR (1860 - 1926)
THE HENRY BULLETIN, Friday, June 18, 1926, p3, cols 4-8 [edited].
In remembrance of Eugenia [Mason] Ramsey Taylor, who departed this life May 4, 1926. She had been confined to her bed for more than three years, with that dreaded disease, tuberculosis, and her death had been expected. She was the daughter of John [K.] and Martha E[lizabeth Pearson] Mason and was born August 4, 1860. Her father was lost in action during the Civil War*, leaving her fatherless in infancy. Her mother died in 1918. She was married to George [L.] Ramsey in the year of 1876, who died in the year of 1889. To this union was born six sons. She was married the second time to J[ohn Fontaine] Taylor who died in 1916, and to this union was born two sons. She was being cared for by one of her sons, J[esse] H[erbert] Taylor, who lived on Snow Creek at the time of her death. She was brought to another sons's home, J[oseph] L[eonard] Ramsey near Henry, VA, where funeral services were conducted by Rev. J[ohn] W. Wade and C[arver] L[ee] Ross. She was laid to rest in the old Pearson grave yard, by the side of her two sons, who had preceded her to the grave several years ago. She had been a faithful member of the Missionary Baptist Church since early girlhood, never wavering in her faith and trust. She leaves to mourn her loss, six children and seventeen grandchildren. The sons are [Stephen] Alonza Ramsey of Pettibone, ND; George [Harrison] Ramsey of Nampa, ID; J[oseph] L[eonard] and W[illiam] L[sic--Thomas] Ramsey of Henry, VA, and J[esse] H[erbert] and W[sic - John] H[ampton] Taylor of Sontag, VA. One son, John Ramsey was accidently killed while a brakeman by a freight train in 1902. Another son, M[illard] F[illmore] Ramsey was killed by his uncle, S[tephen] J[udson] Ramsey. While it seems hard to part with mother, we should not grieve, for mother now is resting where sickness and sorrow never come and pain and death are no more. The golden gates are open wide, a gentle voice said, "Come." By a granddaughter.
