Benjamin Franklin Shibe
Birth: Jan. 23, 1832
Death: Jan. 14, 1922

Major League Baseball Team Owner. Served in 1862 in the Pennsylvania 51st Infantry Regiment. He was the co-owner of the Philadelphia Athletics, the first tenants of Shibe Park. Shibe's partner in Philadelphia's only American League team was Connie Mack. The Phillies did play at Shibe Park, later named Connie Mack Stadium, but only after their own park, Baker Bowl burnt in 1938. Both the Phillies and Athletics (A's) shared the stadium until the Athletics moved to Kansas City at the end of the 1954 season (Now in Oakland). The Phillies played there until the conclusion of the 1970 season, when crowds of fans were seen running down Lehigh Avenue carrying toilets and such from the old park.
