Death: Aug. 20, 1949

Martin was know as "Gumdrop Halvorson" as he alwys gumdrop candy for the kids when he was around selling McConnons.
Martin & Marie lived on a farm by New Richland, Minnesota for 20 years, when they moved to Lessor township, McIntosh, Minnesota - in 2 April 1905 - owned it for 7 years; sold it in 1913. Sometime after 1911 they moved to Gully, Minnesota, (1-mile north of Gully), where he resided since, except the last four years spent with his daughters.

Newspaper clipping:
Martin Halvorson, residing about one mile north of Gully, MN is fast becoming the most most noted man in this part of Polk County, particularly in his skill in marksmanship and deadly aim from the first shot of the Springfield Massachusetts Rifle. For two mornings in succession, Wednesday and Thursday before breakfast in the short space of time of about the twinkling of an eye, each occasion near his house, he brought down a handsome wolf, which are not only valued for their hide, but also for the bounty that the County offers for the wild wolf capture, dead or alive. Had the US Government known of Martin's accurateness and skill and deadly shot with the Springfield rifle, the chances are he would have been drafted in the Great war and ordered to to France without drilling or training with a speed or witness hat would have caused the late Col. Roosevelt to turn pale with jealousy, because Martin would get orders to go over there and fight the good fight while the late Col. could get nothing but orders to stay home, as he finally did. So much difference in men!
