G.W. (Gent) Ballew

Funeral services for G.W. (Gent) Ballew, 69, who died at a local hospital at 11:10 pm Wednesday, will be conducted at 4 pm Friday at the Chapel of the Thomas McAfee Funeral Home by the Rev. Paul Tankersley. Interment will be in the family plot in Woodlawn Park.

The active pallbearers will be Frank Cannon, Gay Thompson, Fred Poole, Chick Charping, Frank Hollingsworth and Bill Hollingsworth.

Mr. Ballew was born Oct. 12, 1883, in the Glassy Mountain section of upper Greenville County and was a son of the late Merideth and Harriett Moon Ballew. Most of his life was spent in Greenville, formerly for nine years on Florida Ave. and for the past year on Artillery Rd., Hampton Heights, off Wade Hampton Blvd. , with his daughter Mrs. Otis Evans. He was engaged in textile work until his health failed.

He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Otis Evans, Mrs. R.A. Dickerson, and Mrs. Corrie Simpson, Greenville; two sisters, Mrs. R.M. Charping, Greer, and Mrs. Addie Howard, Buffalo; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

The body is at the Thomas McAfee Funeral Home and the family is at the home of Mrs. Otis Evans.

It is respectfully requested that flowers be omitted.
