Obituary-John C. Hosch
Once again the grim reaper has visited our city and removed from our midst one of our honored and respected townsmen, John C. Hosch. For the past year the deceased had been in very poor health, suffering from a kidney disease which seemed to resist all medical aid. He was a very patient sufferer and bore up bravely under his affliction until the very last. Mr. Hosch was a barber by profession and owned a shop close to the Lakeside hotel, where he has been in continuous business for the past ten years. He was one of the old pioneers of this community, and is known to nearly everyone in the county.
John C. Hosch was born May 15, 1870, in Dubuque, Iowa, and died May 11, 1914 at his home in Ortonville, aged 43 years, 11 months and 26 days. The deceased left his native state in young manhood and came to Spencer, S. D., where he was married to Zoe Burnham. Mr. and Mrs. Hosch came to Ortonville, where they have resided ever since.
The deceased was baptaized in infancy in the Chistian church. He was a member of the Masonic order, the Modern Woodmen and the local fire department.
He leaves a wife, four brothers and five sisters to mourn his demise. Tracy Gilbert, Mrs. S. Berg and Philip and Henry Hosch were here to attend the funeral. The services were conducted Tuesday, May 12, at 1 p.m. in the Masonic Hall by Rev James A. Geer, music being furnished by a quartet, after which the remains were taken to Spencer, S. D for interment.
