Major League Baseball Player. Born in Watertown, Wisconsin, he was a first baseman making his debut with the New York Giants on September 21, 1907. Nicknamed "Bonehead", he is best remembered for a base running error in a game against the Chicago Cubs on September 23, 1908, which caused the Giants to lose the National League pennant. For sixteen seasons, he played with the New York Giants (1907-16), Brooklyn Robins (1917), Chicago Cubs (1918-20) and New York Yankees (1925-26). He finished his career with a record of 720 runs scored, 1580 hits, 61 home runs, 733 runs batted in and a .273 batting average. In 1953, he was inducted into the International League Hall of Fame. He died at age 67 in Daytona Beach Florida. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
