Mildred "Millie" Alcock passed away at home, Roscoe, Texas, on Monday, April 6, 2009, following a long illness.
Millie was the daughter of Travis and Florence Slaback.
Millie spent her early years on farms near Chanute. The family moved to Chanute in the early 1940s.
During her lifetime she had lived in at least 10 states and lived three and a half years in Germany.
Millie never met a stranger. She always had a ready smile and friendly "hello." She was a very special, giving, and kind person. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and good friend to many.
Creativity should have been her middle name because when she sat down her hands were always busy, sewing, cutting out something, usually quilt pieces, embroidering, etc. If someone needed a quilt or curtains, she was the one to make them.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son Michael Jones; daughter Theresa Moore; and husband Max Alcock; two sisters, Mary English and Lorna Stiles; and a brother, Wesley Slaback.
She is survived by sons Tony and William Jones; daughter Sheryl Harris; sister Neva Wortman; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and six nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Village Creek Cemetery, Wilson County, Kansas, on Friday, April 24, 2009. Bob Stiles will officiate.
The cemetery is located five miles west of Chanute, KS, on Highway 39 then north on Wichita Road 1 3/4 miles on the left.
The family suggests any memorial be made in her name to NursCare Hospice, 1822 26th Street, Snyder, TX 79549.
Arrangements are under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home, Sweetwater, Texas.
