Obit Book Vol.1 p.3 Wetzel County.
William S. Byard, well known and highly respected citizen, passed away at his home at Glovers Gap on January 12, 1932. He was 78 years and 14 days old.
Mr. Byard was a son of the late Jerry and Susan Byard, pioneer residents of this county, and was born at Uniontown on December 28, 1853. He was married in 1877 to Martha Poe, who preceded him in death in 1916.
Mr Byard professed faith in Christ early in life and at the time of his death was a member of the Christian Church. For many years he was employed by the Baltimore and Ohio railroad but had been retired from active service on account of his advanced age for the last few years. He was a loyal member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows at Burton.
Uncle Bill," as he was known by everyone, was a kind and loving father and a highly beloved friend and neighbor. His family, many friends and relatives deeply regret his passing but are somewhat consoled in their grief by the knowledge that his task was complete and that he has gone to his reward.
He is survived by the following named sons and daughters and a host of more distant relatives and many sorrowing friends: Mrs. Lillian Shultz, of McKeesport, Pa., C.C. Byard, ofCeredo, W. Va., John Byard, of Moundsville; Mrs Mary Goodwin and Mrs. Anna Grandstaff, of McMechen, W. Va., and Mrs. Della Thones, of Weirton, W. Va., Mrs. Mary Snodgrass Byard, with whom he united in marriage in 1920, and two brothers, Garrison Byard, of Yorkville, Ohio, and Ellis Byard, of Carolina, W. Va., and one sister, Mrs. Sarah Hinerman, of Mannington Rfd. 6, also survive.
Funeral services were held January 16, 1932, at the Baptist Church, at Glovers Gap, in Charge of Rev. Haught, assisted by Rev. Kendall, Rev. Allen and Rev. Hughes. Special hymns were rendered by the Hundred choir. The impressive committal services of the I.O.O.F. Lodge were carried out at the graveside in the Glovers Gap cemetery by his fraternal brothers.
