NOTE1: Do not know when his headstone was placed nor by whom. But, there is a discrepancy in his BIRTH DATE/YEAR. Perhaps there is proof of April 5, 1849 somewhere, but me or Gary Hicks (his great grandson) have not located it, so without a more reliable source or bible page to prove April 5, 1849, I am adding this discrepancy rationale to his memorial and changing the year from 1849 to 1850 because he had to be born before 1850 Census enumeration date to have been 2/12 of a year old (age 0) when 1850 census was enumerated... all census records indicate a later month and year than the headstone:
1850 Census shows he was 0 yrs 2/12 age and was enumerated Sept 27, 1850 which would indicate he was born ca July 1850, so we know he was likely born in 1850 to have been 0 years 2/12 age when enumerated in July 1850.
1860 Census shows he was 10 years old (again giving him a birth year estimate 1850)
1870 Census show he was 19 years old enumerated August 27, 1870 which would make his April 5th wrong if really born in April 1849 vs 1850 because census was in August.
1880 Census he was head of household and states he was 29 years old enumerated June 17, 1880 which could give him a 1851 birthdate if born in April.
So, it appears 1850, 1860, 1870, and 1880 census compated to headstone do not properly reflect either a correct month and/or correct year (or both). But due to headstone having an actual month day, we can probably assume April 5th was a known date, but April 5, 1849 would not match any census record. If anyone has bible page or proof of his birth date & year, please submit and I will update his findagrave record.
NOTE2: This findagrave memorial was originally created with a middle name of Wade, but Gary Hicks (great grandson of James West) said there is no proof he had a middle name at all so suggests we removed it. I checked all my family records I have on him and only find one reference to a middle name and that is on a family picture shared back in 2011 where they stated he was James Wade West, but there was no scan provided of the back of the photo where I assume names would be printed. I have removed the middle name. But I have found others using middle name of "Wade" and/or "Edward" with no proof shared, so unless verified otherwise will assume no proven middle name has been located and have change memorial to James West (without a middle name) as on headstone also.

Inscription
Their is no evidence of a middle name for my g-grandfather. Who ever installed the marker got his birth date wrong. The census shows him 2 months old in 1850.
