SPANISH AMERICAN WAR VETERAN
Henry Madison Bunting was born February 15, 1871 near Fort Wayne, Indiana. He indicated that his mother was Margaret Baker, born in Indiana, and Elijah Bunting, born in Ohio.
Enlisted in the Army on Apr. 26, 1898 at Fort Wayne, Indiana. Served in Company "B" of 157th Indiana Volunteer Infantry. Discharged Nov. 19, 1898 at Indianapolis with rank of Private. Pension awarded on certificate C2,396,576.
He married Eleanor Laura Greyell on June 12, 1909 in Bellingham. She was the daughter of Abel and Ada (Wallbridge) Greyell. They had four children (David, Myrtle, Daniel and Martha). They resided in Bellingham until 1912 and then moved to Indiana and Oregon before returning to Washington. In May 1936, he became a patient at the VA Hospital at American Lake while his wife established residency at Port Orchard. The couple were admitted to the Veterans' home on March 24, 1938 and were discharged Jan. 5, 1939.
Mr. Bunting, 81, died Nov. 9, 1952 at the V.A. Hospital at American Lake. Services were conducted by the Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home. Burial was in the Washington Veterans Home Cemetery, although he was not a member at the time of his death.
