Daughter of John and Anna Delilah Ottilia Zumwalt Mauck. Elizabeth was born in Frederick Co, VA; which was later included in Dunmore Co (1772); which was later renamed Shenandoah Co (1778). Elizabeth's mother died in the early 1800's (grave location unknown). Her father remarried in 1806 to the widow Christena Wiseman Painter. John and Christena emigrated to Harrison Co, Indiana, in the fall of 1811. John was buried in the first cemetery at Mauckport, Indiana, which no longer exists. Christena is buried at Old Mount Zion cemetery, also in Harrison Co, Indiana.
Elizabeth married John Pittman, son of Nicholas and Catherine Pittman, in 1787 in Shenandoah Co, VA. They emigrated to Harrison Co, Indiana, with their children in 1809 and settled on the land upon which lies the Hottell Cemetery. The cemetery was referred to in John's Will: "The farm on which I now live except three fourths of an acre including the grave yard it being the South West quarter of Section thirty one in township three South, range three east of the Second principal meridian…". Based on this reference, I speculate that John and his first wife, Elizabeth Mauck, are buried in the cemetery even though no stones for them can be identified. Elizabeth was likely the first to be buried in this cemetery.
