Eileen M. Starke of Greenport, 48, died on Jan. 11 at Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport after a five-month battle with cancer. She was born in Brooklyn on May 26, 1956, to Bill and Winifred Sherin. Raised in Bellrose and Coram, she graduated from Newfield High School in Selden in 1973 and continued her education at Suffolk Community College from 1992 to 1995. Ms. Starke traveled and resided throughout the U.S. and Canada, including Silver City, Nev., and Dawson and Whitehorse in the Yukon. A family statement reads in part: "In 1986 she fell in love with the North Fork and made it her permanent home with her husband, Richard, for the past 17 years ... She always said, 'There's no place like the North Fork and no place I'd rather be.' " She worked at the old Galley Ho restaurant in New Suffolk from 1986 until it closed, and most recently was employed for several years by North Fork Country Club. According to the family statement Ms. Starke loved boating on Peconic Bay and was an avid gardener. Predeceased by her parents, and by her daughter, Caitlyn, in 1990, she is survived by her husband; two sisters, Nancy Love of Lake Panamoka, N.Y., and Jeanette Sherin of Port Jefferson; her stepfather, Luis Diaz of Coram; and her stepmother, Mary Sherin of Calverton. A memorial service was held on Jan. 17 at St. Agnes Church, Greenport. Interment was at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Cutchogue, on Jan. 17, with arrangements by Horton-Mathie Funeral Home, Greenport.
