Jack Lee Christle, 77, Wabash, died Thursday, March 13, 2008, at 2:45 p.m. at Wabash County Hospital.
He was born Oct. 27, 1930, in Wabash to Michael and Edna (Tomson) Christle. He married Susan (Branam) Macaluso in Wabash in 1979, and she survives.
Jack was a 1948 graduate of Wabash High School, where he played football, and a graduate of the Indiana Barber College. He was a barber more than 50 years, working at the Indiana Hotel Barbershop and the Razors Edge Barbershop, both in downtown Wabash. Jack would volunteer his barber skills for many nursing homes in Wabash. He was in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1953, during the Korean War. Jack was a member and past commander of the Wabash American Legion Post 15, and a former 5th District commander of the American Legion. He was a founder of the American Legion Post 15 Riders, a member of the Wabash VFW Post 286, and grew up in the St. Bernard Catholic Parish.
He is also survived by seven children, Darren (Joyce) Christle, Indianapolis, Dawn (Jeff) Barnett, Indianapolis, Cindi (Mike) Yount, Andrews, Sandra (Frank) Merriman, Indianapolis, Karen (Tony) Porter, Andrews, Michael Macaluso, Kokomo, and Robert Macaluso, Wabash; a brother, Ray (Annalee) Christle, Lafayette; two sisters-in-law, Ruthann Christle, Wabash, and Sharon Dellamarggio, Lafayette; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Joe and Bob Christle, and a grandson, Steven Burns Jr., who died in 1990.
Funeral services will be at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 188 W. Sinclair St. on Monday, March 17, at 10 a.m. with Fr. Sextus Don officiating. Burial will be in Falls Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 16, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, Wabash Chapel, 1241 Manchester Ave. Preferred memorial is Wabash American Legion Post 15.
