BLACKFOOT — Lile Bowman passed away peacefully on February 8, 2009 at the home of her son in Brigham City, Utah. She died of causes incident to age following a stroke.
She was born on June 20, 1909 in Portage, Utah, to Chester Hall and Eva Hawks Hall.
She attended schools in American Falls and Moreland, Idaho. She graduated from Moreland High School. She married Melvin D. Bowman on June 6, 1928 in Blackfoot, Idaho. They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple. They were partners working the Sugar Factory Farm in Blackfoot: first with Melvin's Father and later with his brother, Jack.
They bought a 40 acre farm in Riverside, Idaho during the depression and worked hard to make the mortgage payments. Lile always worked very hard and consistently did a man's work on the farm as well as the household duties as a wife and mother. She also worked as a waitress at the Wagon Wheel Cafe for several years.
They had three sons: Monte (Carroll) Blackfoot, Idaho, Ross (Kaye) Brigham City, Utah, and Buddy (Jackie) Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin and two grandsons, Brent and Layne Bowman.
Lile was an active member of the LDS church. She served in many church teaching and leadership callings in both ward and stake organizations. She was faithful in attending her church meetings and loved to attend the temple. She enjoyed making a large variety of crafts from quilts to Christmas wise men. She shared many of her creations with family members and friends.
She always had a vegetable garden and canned thousands of bottles of vegetables, fruit, and juice. She had a deep love of flowers. Her place was a rainbow of beautiful blossoms and shrubs every summer.
She was an outstanding cook and liked to try new recipes on her family and friends and she often shared goodies with her neighbors.
Lile loved to travel and visited many places in Europe, Mexico, Canada, Alaska, Hawaii, and the states. She still has many friends., as most of her older friends died over the years she found younger friends.
The family would like to express their heart felt thanks to all the friends and extended family members for their love, support, and prayers. We also sincerely thank the Hospice and Home Health nurses and organizations in Utah and Idaho for their loving concern and extra mile service.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 13, 2009, at the Northwest LDS Stake Center. Friends may visit the family at the Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave. in Blackfoot, Idaho, from 7 to 9 PM on Thursday and at the stake center for an hour prior to the service on Friday.
Interment will be in the Riverside-Thomas Cemetery.
