He was the son of Deacon John Fassett (1720-94) and Mary Woolley (1720-82), whom are both buried at the Old First Church in Bennington, VT. He married Hannah Safford, daughter of Dea. Joseph Safford, on 18 Oct 1764 in Bennington. He served with his brother-in-law Maj. Samuel Safford and was a "Green Mountain Boy" from 1774-76. He was a judge on the Vermont Supreme Court from 1778-86 and moved to Cambridge in 1784.
