Ralph L. Pitzer 50. Brysonia farmer and fruit grower who recieved national publicity four years ago as the first man in the nation to be cured by the new drug. neomycin. died Friday afternoon at 2:15 o'clock enroute from his orchard to his home.
Mr. Pitzer had been ill for several years and had been in the Pennsylvania Hospital at Philadelphia twice, the last time in March when he was treated for a heart condition. His first visit there was in November. 1949. when he was cured in five days of a urinary tract infection from which he had suffered for two years. The then new wonder drug, neomycin, was used.
Mr. Pitzer was in his usual health Fndat and had eaten a hearty dinner. He then went to his orchards to supervise spraying. Taken ill there, he got into his car to drive to his home but suffered an attack. He was taken to his home by two orchard workers, Richard and Ralph Stoner, but apparently died before reaching his dwelling. His physician. Dr. Raymond Hale, was summoned.

Bom in Menailen Twp., Mr. Pitzer lived there all his life. He was a son of the late Ira D. Pitzer and Mrs. Ida A. Knouse Pitzer of Menailen Twp. He was a member o: the Bethlehem Lutheran Church at Bendersville. the Upper Adams Lions Club and the Arendtsville Fire Company. He had attended the schools of Menailen Twp. and graduated from the Arenctsville High School in 1925.
Survivors include his mother: his wife, the former Aletha Herring to whom he was married 27 years ago: these children. Mrs. Clyde Uady of Guernsey; Richard Pitzer of Biglerville and Mrs. Richard Unger. Fort Worth, Tex., and four grandchildren.
Funeral services Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Bender Funeral Home here with the Rev. Dr. O. D. Coble, his pastor. officiating.
Interment in the Bendersville Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Monday after 7 pm.
