He was in Greene County, Kentucky by 1810. He arrived in the Troy Bend, Hancock County, Kentucky area in 1817 with his wife Polly to establish a tobacco inspection warehouse. Besides owning land in Perry County, Indiana, he owned 200 acres on the river in Hancock, County and 200 more on Rough Creek in Breckinridge County, Kentucky. On 5 MAR 1836 he deeded a lot to the trustees of the Mount Zion Baptist Church which was established in 1820 at Troy Bend, Hancock County, Kentucky.
