Son of Ebenezer Prime & Experience Conklin; husband of Charlotte Seeley [1827-1846] of Bridgeport, Connecticut & Martha Elizabeth Smith [1821-1872] of Smithtown, Suffolk County, L. I.; at age 16 was an apprentice to George Platt, silversmith in New York City; studied at Oberlin College in Ohio, where he became a firm abolitionist; opened a thimble factory in Huntington, Suffolk County; he had 10-12 workers in a water powered thimble mill & produced 5 to 6 gross of silver & gold thimbles per day; opened a second mill ca. 1863; built the Prime Octagon House on Prime Avenue, Huntington; suffered 1st nervous breakdown in 1871 and was sent to Bloomingdale Asylum in New York City; suffered 2nd breakdown in 1883 and spent the rest of his life at the Brunswick House, a private asylum at Amityville, Suffolk County, where he died
