Julius Stricker, b. Apr. 1828 (re: 1900 census) at what was Prussia, that part possibly now Berlin, Germany. He d. Sept. 17, 1905 at Roxborough in the southwest section of the City of Philadephia along the north side of the Schuylkill River. Julius' wife Augusta d. Mar. 18, 1892 at Roxborough with both interred with a common headstone at the Bethany German Lutheran Cemetery at Manayunk (Philadelphia), Penn.
On May 11, 1860 Julius, age 31; wife Augusta age 27; son Julius, age 6; son Otto, age 5; and dau. Bertha, age 1; arrived at the Port of New York from Berlin aboard the ship Johanna from the Port of Bremen, Germany declaring their intent to settle at the City of Philadelphia. The family is initially enumerated in the July 1860 U.S. census at the 21st Ward (Roxborough) of the City of Philadelphia where Julius would be a long-term cotton mill worker. Three more children were b. at Philadelphia: Charles J., Theodore and Emily. In particular:
• iv. Charles J. Stricker, b. Feb. 1864 (1900 census) at Roxborough section of the City of Philadelphia, Penn., d. in 1929 at the Borough of Bridgeport, in Montgomery County southwest across the Schuylkill River from Roxborough. He m. 1) circa 1886, Sarah Layfield, dau. of James Edmund Layfield and Alice (---) Layfield, b. in Dec. 1866 (1900 census) at Philadelphia. They had three children before Sarah d. in 1922 at Bridgeport. Charles m. 2) his deceased wife's unmarried younger sister, Annie Layfield, b. circa 1874 at Philadelphia, who d. in 1963. There were no children of the 2nd marriage.
