Birth: 1828
Death: Jun. 1, 1874

I have added a memorial for Alexander again because I have not been able to contact the owner of the other entry for Alexander.

I have not been able to determine his middle name other than C. Was it Culbertson?

He was married to Miriam Carney (1828-Aft 1900)
Her death date and burial site are unknown.

She was the daughter of Jesse Carney and Sarah Greene.

Alexander and Miriam's children were:

Theodore H (1851-1914 )
(See link below.)

Charlotte (1854-1855)
(See link below.)

Thomas (1856-Aft 1880)

Nancy E. (1858-Bef 1870)

Magdalene (1861-Aft 1880)

Frances (Fannie) (1864-1937) who married Lewis O Young
(See link below.)

Fedelia Geneva (1868-aft 1880)

G (1869-1869) He was a son that was listed as born in 1869.

I walked through the cemetery in August 2008, but was unable to find his grave marker. There are many up there that are not legible. Other county records indicate he is buried there however.

In a document that I found in the Jackson County Library's Geneology Room entitled "Some Early City, Village and County Burying Grounds: Being an account of some of the cemeteries of Reedy, Sandy and Mill Creeks from visits made in 1903, 1904, and 1905. With additions by the author through later years of some Wood and Wird County Cemeteries." by John A. House, on page 27, he listed: "Alexander Dewitt died June 1874 aged forty-six years eight months." in his description of what he called Harpold Cemetery.
You can read it online at:
http://www.wvpioneers.com/documents/millcreek_jh_bg.htm#03

However on page 20 he described the cemetery being placed on a hill top plateau near Ripley, WV and "The western end of the elevation is farily level on top and is a beautiful grove that slopes down towards the road on the southwest stand the Mount Calvary, M.E. Church...". The description is more elaborate, but describes what is today known as Mount Calvary Cemetery.
There is a Harpold cemetery elsewhere in the county... but it seems appropriate to place Alexander's memorial in this cemetery rather than the other Harpold cemetery.

Note also that Alexander's wife Miriam Carney's parents Jesse and Sarah are buried in this cemetery as well. (Also pg 27 in the House book.)
