Sarah was the daughter of John and Hetty (Vulgamen) Nowels. She was married to Joseph D Yeoman in Fountain County, Indiana on June 3, 1830. Joseph and Sarah along with her father John and brother David Nowels were the first settlers to come to the fall of the Iroquois in the Fall of 1834. This was the beginning of the settlement that would become Rensselaer.
