Nadene Cumsey

Funeral service for Nadene Cumsey will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 10, 2009 at the Inola Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the Tahlequah City Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. under the direction of the Inola Funeral Home and Crematory.

Nadene Cumsey passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at the Inola Health Care Center at the age of 83.

The daughter of Christopher and Fay Hutsell Stump was born December 31, 1925 in Dudenville, Missouri. There she lived and attended school. She later moved to Kansas City where she worked for a local doctor. In 1954 she moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma and began working for Hillcrest Hospital. Over the next few years she lived a short while in Grove before moving to Tahlequah. There she met Bob Cumsey. They were married November 4, 1971 in Stillwell. For the next several years Nadene and Bob were very active in the Tahlequah community. They had a local trash route as well as running a service station on Muskogee St. Local mission work was one of her top priorities. Nadene ran a local pantry for needy people in the area. She also played the piano for many years at Long Springs Indian Baptist Church, and at the Sequoyah Indian School. Bob was a minister at the school where he attended as a child.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Bob, and sister, Myrtle Stump.

Survivors include her daughter, Phyllis and husband David of Aurora, MO; sons, Dale and wife Patricia of Greenville, SC, and Paul and wife Marie of Oaklawn, IL; step-children, Mary of Frisco, TX, June of Oologah, Clinton of Manford, Tonice of Grove, Cuma of Catoosa, Melvin of Monett, MO and Illa of Inola; brothers, Robert and wife Beverly of Marysville, MO and Christopher and wife Phyllis of Decatur, IL; sisters, Velma Lowther of Broken Arrow, Eva and husband Eldon of Inola, and Barbara and husband Montie of Jasper, MO; grandchildren, Paul Jr., Charedith, Angela, Jonathon, Nathan, and Hannah and numerous step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
