She was the paternal grandchild of Caleb Penny II and Lizzie Averyt of Johnson County, and gr-grandchild of Caleb Penny Sr. & Sarah Avyert/Avera of Johnston Co; and gr-gr-grandchild Edward Penny of Hampton, VA and Elizabeth Ballentine of Norfolk, VA who arrived in Johnston Co. ca. 1740.
Rena was about age 25 when she married 29-year old John "Milton" Baucom of Wake County around 1884.
The couple farmed in the St. Mary's (Auburn-Garner) area of Wake County and were parents to 6 known surviving children (3 boys/3 girls): Kittie (c. 1885), Durwood Royal (1887-1888), Eason (c. 1890), Mary Swannanoa (1892-1979), John Robin (1894-1978), and Annie Laurie (1898-1996).
Rena was widowed in 1932 when her husband of 48 years died at age 77. She survived him another 20 years, passing in 1952 at age 92.
