He was the paternal grandson of Urias Baucom & Elizabeth Lee of Wake; and gr-grandson of John Baucom Jr. (1755-1840). On his mother's side, he was the grandson of Nathaniel Green Rand & Pherabee Parker of Wake County. Both the Baucoms and Rands saw their wealth greatly diminished after the Civil War, but they were still prominent citizens in their communities and substantial landowners.
Milton married Arena "Rena" Penny about 1884, when he was about age 29, and she 25.
The couple farmed in the Auburn (St. Mary's) area of Wake County and would become parents to 6 known surviving children (3 boys/3 girls): Kittie (c. 1885), Durwood Royal (1887-1888), Eason (c. 1890), Mary Swannanoa (1892-1979), John Robin (1894-1978), and Annie Laurie (1898-1996).
John "Milton" Baucom died in 1932. He was 77 years old. His bride of 48 years survived him another 20 years, passing in 1952 at age 92.
