From the book "Through the Years, before 1966" on page 50 and 106: In February 1907, Cephas went to Rapid City, SD, to file on a homestead in Meade county., South Dakota. When the homestead rights opened in SD, a train load of immigrants left Spencer, NE in April 1907 and rode through Norfolk, NE, Chadron, NE, Rapid City, SD then Owanka, SD. They all filed claims in the lakeside area, Meade co., once called nine mile flats.
Their first child, Zelda was born in NE. The other children were born in South Dakota. Six of their eight children lived to adulthood.
Their son, Cephas Wayne, was four, when they moved to a farm at Owanka, Pennington county, SD.
