John reenlisted for the Mexican-American War and is listed with his brother W. S. Crowson (John Cosson - W. S. Cosson) on the Muster Rolls of Texas Units of Veterans in the Mexican War. He served as a private in Middleton T. Johnson's Company. The Mexican-American War was an armed conflict between the United States and Mexico From 1846 to 1848. According to the "Daughters of Republic of Texas", John was killed in battle in March 1847, just four months before his daughter (Sarah Elizabeth Jane Crowson) was born.
