Enos Johnson, Prominent Union County Farmer, Died Thursday Evening

Enos Johnson, 81, prominent Union county farmer for the past 30 years, died yesterday evening at 8:30 o'clock at his home in Grant township, eleven and one half miles southeast of Creston, after a year's illness. He was born Dec. 19, 1856 in Sweden, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Johnson and was married in Omaha to Josephine Newsteadt. He moved to Union county from Omaha in 1907. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. R. J. Stromberg of Chicago, Amelia Johnson of Omaha and Mrs. Roy Balius of Creston and two sons, Gilbert at home and Bernard of Omaha. His wife died in 1932.

Funeral services will be held at the Swedish Lutheran church Friday afternoon at 2:00 conducted by the Rev. Clarence H. Carlson. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery.

Census records indicate he was brought to America about 1868 from Sweden. One census record indicates his father's name was John Johnson. Settled in Omaha, Nebraska, where census records indicate he worked for the Union Pacific Railroad. He married Josephine Nysteadt in April 1880. Their children in birth order were Bernard Enos, Elsa Lydia (Mrs. Raymond Joseph Stromberg), Amelia, Pauline Anna (Mrs. Roy Earnest Balius), and Gilbert Paul. In 1907 Enos, his wife, Pauline and Gilbert, moved to Grant Township in Union County, Iowa, where they had a farm 3 miles northwest of Shannon City.
